On 11 November 2011, couples across Mumbai lined up to marry on one of the most memorable dates of the decade. The Times of India's Times City section followed the day's celebrations, among them a wedding organised by Rupali Goshalia's company, Ornate Weddings.

The rare 11.11.11 sequence drew couples from every community: Hindu, Muslim and Christian weddings all took place across the city. While the numbers 1 and 11 hold significance in the Hindu calendar, the paper found that for most couples the real draw was simply the romance of the date.

Families went to remarkable lengths to make the day unforgettable, from ceremonies timed to the exact minute, such as pheras at 1:11 am and receptions starting at 11:11 pm, to couples who had got engaged on 10.10.10 and chose the next sequence to marry.

Demand was enormous. Venues in the suburbs were sold out months in advance, an estimated 10,000 weddings took place in Delhi alone that day, and planners were already taking bookings for 12.12.12, the last date of its kind.
